The four companions sludged through the brackish waters of the Vast Swamp south of the Sunndi. During the day they easily avoided the lazy alligators floating just below the surface, but could not shake the buzzing mosquitoes that swarmed about their sweat filled helms in this hot environment.
The Delvers have played for ten months at this point; the main campaign journal will always be out of sync with our current sessions. However, I wanted to post this actual play the month it took place, since, after all, it’s our “Halloween Special”. With two posts a day, it will culminate on October 31st along with a post from The Delvers’ main campaign journal.
From time to time, I plan to have other one shot modules posted, but that won’t interfere with the regular updates on Monday.
Catching their breath amongst some mangroves, the party sighted a small group of bullywugs, the frog-like creatures leaping passed the group’s resting spot. Perhaps these tribal creatures headed towards some forbidden city hidden deep in the surrounding wetlands or perhaps they were a scouting party on a mission for their bloated shaman who was making ready a sacrifice at some lost temple dedicated to a forgotten batrachian god.
Kay: Should we make background stories for these characters?
DM: Heh, no.
Normally I prefer one character per player with room for torchbearers and henchmen, but for this expedition I insisted on two high level pregens provided in the module for each player. Due to circumstances, only Kay and Sue would run the tomb this time.
- Baya was a female human Fighter. She was armed with a magic bow, 10 +1 arrows, a +1 magic blade and armored in splint mail.
- Peter was a male half-elf Cleric-Fighter-Magic User. He was dressed in +2 magic chain mail, carried a +1 magic shield and +1 magic mace and possessed Boots of Levitation.
- Len was a male human Cleric. A +3 mace, +3 shield and +3 plate mail, all magical, were part of his assorted equipment.
- Selenor was a female halfling Thief. Her +1 magic dagger and + 1 magic leather armor were complemented by her +1 Ring of Protection and Boots of Speed.
Baya and Peter were to be played by Sue. Len and Selenor were Kay’s characters.
No matter the goal of these amphibians, the bullywugs’ focus did not concern this seasoned group of adventurers who would not be challenged by such an encounter. If anything, the four were glad that their chance to recuperate from their long trek in this humid morass was not interrupted. After their brief recess they continued the slow progress to their destination, The Tomb of Horrors.
