This entry is part 6 of 6 in B2 - Keep on the Borderlands

Delurith looted the body of the fallen chieftain as Shadow began scrambling up the wall to a chest she had spotted in a small alcove near the ceiling. The elf located a pouch which contained a key, twenty-nine gold pieces, and two round red gems and a sharply cut green one that sparkled in the torchlight.

Meanwhile, Shadow examined the chest.

DM: You don’t find any traps. It doesn’t even have any sort of lock on it.
Sue: So the key is for something else.
Kay: What’s inside?
DM: The first thing you notice is a large alabaster and ivory statue. It looks to weigh about 30lbs. There’s a mountain of silver coins, 1,462 and 2 potions.
Kay: I take out the potions and brace my back against the wall to knock the chest down with my feet. I close the lid first.

The weight of the statue brought the chest down quickly with a thud. The statue remained intact and with the latch holding the chest closed, the coins remained inside.

Kay: I climb down and check out the bed. Looking under and on top.
DM: In the bedding you find a total of six pieces of silk.
Kay: I take those.

The two Fighters carried the chest out of the cave as the Thief kept watch from behind; the Cleric guided the party towards the exit by torchlight. With the chest being hauled it took them longer than usual, but the party remained unmolested as they headed back towards the Keep to celebrate.

Dinner’s Almost Ready

They celebrated by buying drinks for Len and Selenor. They purchased wine and honey mead to drink, ate a hearty meal of roast fowl and each took their quota of rumors from the barkeep. While Sue left the game table to wash up for dinner, Kay wanted to spend some more gold.

Kay: Shadow is going to go back into that shop you mentioned before.
DM: The gentleman behind the counter greets you. Behind him, greeting your eyes, are these items.

Kay: Shadow is definitely interested in that dagger. How much is it?
Shopkeeper: 600 gold would make it yours.
Kay: Gah! I really want it. I guess we need to go back to the Caves of Chaos soon. In the meantime . . .
Shadow: I would like to sell these five silk pieces.
Kay: I’m keeping the other as a blanket.
Shopkeeper: 20 gold each for this fine silk.
Shadow: It’s a deal. How much for the silver cup?
Shopkeeper: 20 gold or that silk piece I see you kept.
Shadow: You’ll take my gold.
Kay: I go back to the tavern and buy some honey mead for the cup. When we go back to the ravine, I want to pour it on Doltoran’s cairn. He never got to have any.
