If you compare their adventure to the module, I am sure you can see the obvious changes that were made to The Ruined Tower. Having never run it, the session turned out to be a decent introduction to AD&D 2ed for them.
The play time was about three and a half hours, although that had a lot to do with Eastbrook, NPCs and the forest, which is not covered in the module.
I used the real thief rules from the Player’s Handbook and I did use some of the boxed text as a go to for the tower itself, but I did not read it word for word in actual play. I omitted it entirely when it was cheesy, particularly when the Patriarch says, “Our very safety may depend on your bravery and heroism.”
